When I teach, questions often come up about the differences and similarities between document management and recordsmanagement. Document Management. Document management is used to track and manage documents that are in process. RecordsManagement. Is there any difference? Which one is best?
There is a school of thought that traditional recordsmanagement is dead, a remnant of the past along with paper-based technologies. We know that recordsmanagement continues to play, or has the potential to play, a vital role in the larger information governance framework. This is not entirely accurate.
Web archiving involves using software to take periodic snapshots to preserve as much data as you need about your organization’s website, including any associated metadata. The benefits are that this practice shows your recordsmanagement program: is proactive about capturing and preserving its records.
When most people think of archives, the first thing that comes to mind is Indiana Jones swinging on vines and storing artifacts in giant rooms. While that is an interesting popular image, the archives and archivists here at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) are the protectors of documented history.
